Shim-Sung Experience

Shim-Sung was a huge experience for me;
a time of great growth and finding my true self.
I created the feelings of peace, love and enlightenment.
I realized that all the negative information, emotions and obstacles
I have had were not the real me, that there is something beautiful
deep inside me.
Something that is very precious is that my heart smiles, full of joy and
happiness that I’ll hold dearly and treat affectionately all my life.
I’ll take this opportunity to thank Kim
and all the practitioners in the Dahn Yoga Center in Mountain View for
all the support.

Resting well

Most of us don’t know what it really means to rest, and we sleep in a tensed, busied state of mind and body. Because we live highly stressful lives in which we exercise the analytical parts of our brain all day and minimally move anything else in our bodies, our bodies tense up gradually throughout the day. Unfortunately, most of us feel so drained at the end of the day that we just slump down on the couch instead of properly winding down for proper relaxation and restoration.

When I started taking Dahn Yoga classes after work instead of going straight home and heading for the couch, I first saw myself having much more energy to enjoy the rest of my evenings. Soon I started noticing that I needed less and less sleep — I used to require a full 8 hours of sleep at least, or I’d be out of sorts all next morning. But now, I need to sleep 6 hours at the most, and usually 5 is plenty. I sleep much more relaxed and deeply, so my whole body can rejuvenate quickly and effectively.

If you can’t make it out to a Dahn Yoga class, then I’d recommend doing 5-10 minutes of toe-tapping at least before going to bed. It’s very easy – sit or lie down with your legs stretched out comfortably, bring your feet together, and swing the tops of your feet out and in rhythmically, as you keep your heels together. Feel your toes lightly waving about and the inside of your feet lightly tapping against each other. You can close your eyes to focus on the sensations in your feet more deeply, and keep breathing out comfortably through your mouth to keep releasing tension.

Creating a true community with energy

My Dahn Yoga center was hosting a booth at local health fair, so I went to check out the fair and show my support.

The instructors did a couple of Dahn Mu Do performances and taught very short sample classes, and I was blown away by the attention they were able to draw! I didn’t notice at first, but once the Dahn Yoga instructors went up to the stage and changed the energy of the crowd right away, I was so striken by how much of a community they could create instantly through energy. I could see how the audience remained nothing but an audience — a removed speculator — with all the other performance groups, even if the performance required audience participation. However, once the Dahn Mu Do demo team was on stage, the crowd’s energy started gathering together, and when they moved into the sample Dahn Yoga class, the audience was much more deeply engaged and became a part of the experience.

Today I learned how unnatural it has become for people to communicate beyond the surface, but I also learned the power of communicating with energy to instantly break through that barrier. And I’m very grateful that I’ve found Dahn Yoga to help me practice living deeply connected to my community.

Dahn Yoga class in San Mateo College

Energy Yoga for Body & Brain (Dahn Yoga), a one-unit P.E. class offered at the College of San Mateo is in its second session this fall after enjoying a very fun debut in the summer session offerings
As one might imagine, the atmosphere of this type of class on a college campus creates quite a different experience from the tranquil and sweet purity of our Dahn yoga centers.   Yet, as the instructor for this class, I experience the energy of the whole scene – the cavernous gymnasium space, my voice echoing off twenty-foot high ceilings,  students coming in just out of their classes from up campus, rolling twenty-two sticky mats out onto the shiny hardwood floor -  as the very same energy that so characterizes the Dahn training that I love.  Practicing Connection. Delvering Cosmic energy.  Feeling down to my.. everything,  the crazy joy that comes from seeing another student’s face filled with self-satisfaction and an emerging sense of awareness.

The first month it was “Kay”. For two years she had suffered from Plantar fasciitis, a painful foot condition caused by the ligament that connects the heel bone to the toes. Nothing she tried ever relieved her constant discomfort.   Last week Kay said  her foot pain has completely gone away since starting the class – for the first time ever,  in two years.

Last Thursday it was “Maggie.”  She has been on hormone replacement therapy for five years and trying to wean off, but in the process, has experienced a lot of unpleasant symptoms she didn’t have before, mostly insomnia and hot flashes.  While she has used the myriad natural remedies to alleviate them, she expressed that the results, though somewhat helpful, are subtle (compared to HRT little green pill), thus, requiring a lot more patience and tolerance of the relentless symptoms.  Taking the Energy yoga has lightened up the symptoms and she’s managing a lot better.

Mmm, the whole experience is… continuously bringing about new stories.  I am constantly amazed. Constantly.

What is Energy Healing?

dahn-healerad.gif

I think a lot of people wonder about ‘healing’.  Like, what’s the difference between massage and ‘healing’?  Or is healing something real or just something that you have to ‘believe’ in order to get benefits?

When I started taking Dahn Yoga classes and one of the instructors put her hands on my feet, I really didn’t know what she was doing.  It helped me feel my feet, and her hands were surprisingly warm, but actually I was too anxious to pay attention to class while she was there.

Later I received healing and actually began to practice healing.  At first I went back and forth between ‘feeling something’ and just going through the motions.  Little by little my confidence, awareness, and appreciation for energy healing have grown as I have learned to trust my instincts and give my 100% sincere effort to help through healing.

I went to Sedona to study at the Dahn Healer School.  What I learned there was mostly just to pay attention to myself.  My body knows how to heal, I just have to relax and let it do its thing.

Anyone else want to share about energy healing?

Managing Symtoms of Multiple Schlerosis

There are so many principles we learn in Dahn Yoga that can be applied to MS Symptoms.

The biggest is focusing on the dahn-jon. The stronger my dahn-jon is becoming and the more I focus the better I feel mentally and physically.

I have been more diligent about intestinal exercises. I find that when I am more consistent the exercises are easier and actually relaxing. My body functions better and I am less bloated; it seems to help with the water retention also, especially during the past holiday weekend.

Keeping stress in check is always a challenge for anyone. Stress either by daily challenges or even the heat can make MS Symptoms worse.

One of the best ways to deal with the heat beyond water and staying out of the sun is to learn to breathe out with your mouth slightly open and tilting your chin down to bring the water up, fire down energy in balance. You can then actually feel the back of your neck becoming cooler. This imbalance can also happen when we are exercising so again bringing the awareness here helps.

Body tapping is great to relax the muscle, energy circulation and again makes my brain lighter

Vibration is awesome for the stiffness.

Toe tapping is great for energy and strength in my legs. It also helps with the pain after a long day. I also like ankle rotations.

Recently I have also been incorporating more massage and acupressure points. Starting at the ears, then the area around the eyes, back of the neck, and down arms. Then proceeding down the outside of the legs and the inside of the legs and along the back of the legs. I then finish off with the feet. The Home Massage Therapy Books 1 and 2 have great examples for these techniques.

Being aware of my body and using the stretching exercises we learn in class and in special trainings and incorporating the above items daily keeps my body in check. If balance becomes an issue while walking the principles of the Jangsaeng Walking really helps and concentrating even more on my dahn-jon and breathing. It is so important to learn to relax even more when your body is being challenged

My dream is Music healer.

I first became curious about the Dahn yoga Center when my husband passed on a flyer to me that he happened to pick up from a display at the public library.  As he handed me the flyer he said, “Honey, look!  Brain Respiration!  Just what you need!”  We had a little playful bantering over this intriguing concept, and then the flyer got hidden among the constant flow of junk mail that goes thru our household.  A few months later, I was in the shopping center where the Mt. View Dahn Center is located.  Since I work in the area, the shopping center is pretty familiar to me, and so I noticed that the Dahn Yoga sign was a new addition to what had been there over the past few years.  Though I had many appointments yet to keep with students and lots to do, I could not contain my curiosity any longer. I walked into the Dahn Center and spoke to the headmaster who was between classes and able to work one on one with me in a healing session.  I immediately felt at ease sharing my personal health goals with her, and felt mysteriously uplifted the rest of the day.  That was the beginning of my association with Dahn Center.  In addition to losing 10 lbs. after being unable to lose any weight for 10 years,   I have increased my flexibility (toe-touching instead of calf touching!), virtually erased my insomnia problems, increased my energy, and increased my ability to maintain a positive outlook in my life’s challenges.  My family and co-workers have noticed and continue to comment on the differences they experience when they are with me.  I used to regularly come down with the flu every time I was exposed to it either at home or at work.  Since I attended Healer School in Sedona, attend regular class and Bowing class and practice at home, I have found that I am sensitive enough to my body to heal myself before illnesses can take hold.  My determination to share these wonderful healing tools with everyone has become a motivating force in every area of my life.  I am looking forward to more positive growth for myself on the road to becoming an instructor, and am so happy in my life of sharing with others!

Dahn Yoga for teens

Since I started coming to yoga in Moraga the main thing I have taken from this experience so far is to breathe better. Before I came to this yoga class I had a habit of not breathing out, and only breathing in when I was stressed or upset. Now however I fell like I have less stress because of the breathing technique I have learned. Mainly to just breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth, which may seem simple, but to do it regularly has great benefits. Obviously, I have become more flexible as well since we do many challenging postures and stretches during class. Surprisingly I seem to have more energy after each class as well, even though I’m drenched in sweat after each class. The postures have become easier, but I continue to better myself and push beyond my comfortable limits. Although I did not want to come to this yoga class in the beginning my mom knew it would be better for me, since she is always trying to give me and my sister the best life we can have. In the end I am glad I came after all, and I’ll just keep trying to better myself.
