Dahn Yoga’s energy meditation

I know there are various forms of meditation, but I wanted to share the energy meditation method used in every Dahn Yoga class.

In the Dahn Yoga energy meditation, you bring your hands close together, palms facing each other, and focus on the energy between your palms. Then you move your hands apart as you breathe in, making the energy ball bigger, and then you bring your hands back closer together as you breathe out, making the energy ball small once again. I particularly find this method effective in clearing the mind to bring inner peace because it gives you something to focus on with your body, not with your mind, to cut all the thinking. Also, if you’re having a hard time cutting all the chaotic thinking from your brain, the energy won’t gather in your hands, leaving you to feel nothing. So there’s a built-in self-checking system to really see how well you’re focusing and meditating deeply. :)

Healing my pain in the neck :)

I’ve been really stressed with work and personal life things lately, so I’ve been feeling my body get easily drained and my head constantly heavy. Today was another one of those days.

Even though I took a class at my Dahn Yoga center, my neck still felt incredibly stiff today. I was frustrated because I usually feel so relaxed, calm and happy after every class….so I stayed to whine to the master.

She brought me into the healing room, had me lie down and gave me what felt like at least half an hour of healing massage on my neck and shoulders. I was so grateful that she spent so much time and energy on me, and she smiled down at me and said that it did not last more than 10 minutes. I was BLOWN AWAY!!! I was so much more comfortable and loosened up in just a matter of minutes!

I felt so wonderful and grateful to the master for her powerful yet incredibly warm energy. It’s no wonder I love going to my Dahn center. :D

Deepest thanks to Dahn Yoga…

A member sharing from teatime after today’s Dahn Yoga class:

“I had a really, really bad day today. It was one of those days when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, and from the moment you sit up, one thing leads to another, and the whole day seems to spiral down. I was feeling so down by the end of my work day, I called the Dahn Center to tell the headmaster that I couldn’t make it to class. He could tell right away that I had been buried in stress and that what I actually needed was an energy refreshment. He convinced me to stop by at least for a short chat, and he received me with so much warmth that I started to feel relief right away. My energy became a little lighter, so I decided to stay for class. And now I feel more wonderful than ever — just a 10 minute chat and a 1 hour class more than undid the damage of a horrible, horrible day. I can’t imagine another place on earth where someone can feel so unconditionally loved and cared for….I feel so home at my Dahn Yoga center. Thank you so much! I love you Dahn Yoga!!”

A Nice 4-hour DahnMuDo Reinforcement Class

This past weekend (9/23) we had a very nice regional DahnMuDo reinforcement class.  It was very nice because we spent the whole time outdoors at Rancho San Antonio Park.  The majority of the time was spent doing Jang-saeng walking.  Personally, I found it a bit difficult to maintain all of the Jang-saeng walking guidelines while going downhill.  That aside, we did get to see some wildlife on our hike.  This wildlife included a couple deer, a bobcat (we actually saw more deer keeping an eye on the bobcat from a safe distance), and some wild turkeys.  Of course we also got to see the livestock at the Deer Farm as well.

We stopped for a picnic lunch under some oak trees.  Then we did the Vortex sword form as a group a couple times in a meadow.  All-in-all, not a whole lot of DahnMuDo reinforcement, but Master Kim did share with us hours of related philosophy.  Since exercise alone isn’t the whole picture, this was quite valuable and welcome.  I guess I should restate myself, there was plenty of DahnMuDo reinforcement, but not a whole lot of strenuous exercicse.  I’m glad I went.
