Many individuals who lead a fast-paced modern life balance work with family, friends and free time. For a very few, their sense of balance even extends to being able to hold yoga's scorpion pose in front of a crowd of thousands. Believe it or not, every year the Bishnu Charan Ghosh Cup is held to determine the International Asana Yoga champion.
Recently, a regional competition was held in Toronto, where dozens of expert yoga practitioners took three minutes each to perform a total of seven advanced yoga poses before a silent audience, the Toronto Star reports.
The championship, which will be held in Los Angeles this year, began in 2003 as a way to showcase the strongest and most limber talent in the world of fitness yoga, the newspaper said.
Of course, not all yoga disciplines focus on increasing muscle mass or flexibility. Individuals who take Dahn Yoga know that their holistic mind-body regimen's goal is the pursuit of serenity and mental-physical equilibrium.
By meditating, stretching, breathing deeply and focusing inward, yoga enthusiasts of all ages, backgrounds and body types can champion their own self-improvement, without the need to compete with their peers.
