Some of the same relaxation poses that can be found in Dahn Yoga DVDs are being used by amateur and professional surfers to warm up before hitting the waves and to cool down afterward.
Many individuals who live on the California coast have discovered what the rest of us have yet to find out – that yoga and surfing are not mutually exclusive pursuits. Some of the same relaxation poses that can be found in Dahn Yoga DVDs are being used by amateur and professional surfers to warm up before hitting the waves and to cool down afterward.
Surfer Today reported that Rochelle Ballard, a former World Championship Tour member and one of the top female surfers in the world, has been spreading the word about yoga and surfing.
The veteran wave rider and California native has even released her own DVD on the subject, called "Surf into Yoga," the news source reports. Ballard told the online magazine that certain stretches and poses are especially helpful for those who want to hit the water with an energized body and mind.
These postures include those that stretch the wrists, neck and shoulders, gently twist the spine and organs, limber up the hips and fill the lungs with fresh, clean air.
By engaging in Dahn Yoga a few times a week, especially before or after strenuous activity, individuals can maintain a sense of tranquility that may otherwise only be found at the beach.
