Professional surfer Kelly Slater takes yoga.
No matter who you are, yoga has the potential to work for you. Whether it's for the pursuit of tranquility, mindfulness, strength, flexibility, weight loss or the management of aches and pains, taking part in such a popular mind-body regimen may help you stay on top of your game.
That may be one reason why professional surfer Kelly Slater takes yoga. According to ESPN, the 39-year-old waverider and winner of 10 world surfing championships takes yoga and a Brazilian form of jiu jitsu as a not-so-secret way to stay fit.
Slater is also interested in maintaining his health through a holistic approach. Not only does he reconnect his mind and body through yoga, but he also believes in eating right. The news source reports that the surfer is considering partnering up with Daphne, a California-based health food restaurant chain.
Taking yoga before hitting the waves may seem like an arbitrary way to warm up, but many experts insist that it isn't.
A survey conducted by Australia's Southern Cross University found that one-third of all surfers experience injuries in a year. The periodical Surfer Today added that doing yoga before shooting the curl may reduce the risk of these problems.
