Making my dreams a reality

I used to think that I always lived in the present, but one day I noticed that I lived in dreams, which I played out in my head until I “got over them” without actually living a moment of them.

The Dahn Yoga training has helped me to connect my dreams to my reality, so that I can stay grounded and create real action toward accomplishing the dreams.

Simple yet effective exercises of Dahn Yoga

One of my favorite exercises of Dahn Yoga is toe-tapping.

You lie down or sit comfortably with your legs stretched out and bring your feet together. Then, keeping your heels together, swing the top of your feet in and out in a consistent rhythm. Focus on the physical sensations in your feet, and keep breathing out comfortably through your mouth.

Try doing this before you sleep — your energy will come down to your lower body, your Dahn jon will become warm, and your spine will relax. If you do this regularly — on a daily basis, it can actually strengthen and straighten your spine, activating your central nervous system and healing all kinds of health “issues” your body may have. :)

How is Dahn Yoga different from other types of yoga?

This question seems to be a very popular one among people who are interested in exploring Dahn Yoga a little more deeply. Here is my two cents on this matter.

Dahn Yoga is more than just yoga and is often described as a “holistic health management program.” It’s an energy training program based on ancient Korean energy principles to help to bring your body, mind and spirit together, so that you can experience and live your life fully as a whole person. A good way to look at the Dahn practice is not focusing so much on the yoga — yoga is just a part of the program. There are various energy training methods offered — the yoga classes being the most accessible and also very foundational — including breathing techniques, meditation, brain respiration, martial arts, drumming, dancing, energy healing, and many other forms. You can choose from this array of possibilities according to your needs to develop your true sense of self and recover your original state of health in body, happiness in mind and peace in spirit.

Please feel free to share your definition of Dahn Yoga! :)

Healing the world

“It is now time to acknowledge the ultimate and core value that is capable of encompassing and superceding the partial and prejudicial orientation of the current value systems of the world. It is the one that can become a fulcrum point that will allow balance, harmony, and peaceful coexistence of all people. This is the Earth. The Earth cannot be claimed by any one group or organization regardless of its size or power. If humanity can be said to share one collective vision, it would be peace on Earth. This collective vision may also be our hope for survival in the very near future. To realize that we are all Earth-Humans…this is the key.” - Ilchi Lee

I’m deeply impressed and moved by Ichi Lee’s and Dahn Yoga’s all-encompassing and fundamental approach to heal the Earth and its humanity.

Experiencing energy healing

My Dahn Yoga center recently hosted a special class in which we experienced energy healing.

We partnered up, and we tried giving healing — much like a massage — once just focusing on technique and giving good healinlg, and once again focusing more on our chests and feeling our own bodies. It was so shocking how much of a difference it made — as the healer, I felt much more connected and peaceful, and as the healee I felt the energy healing much more deeply with the second method.

Creating a true community with energy

My Dahn Yoga center was hosting a booth at local health fair, so I went to check out the fair and show my support.

The instructors did a couple of Dahn Mu Do performances and taught very short sample classes, and I was blown away by the attention they were able to draw! I didn’t notice at first, but once the Dahn Yoga instructors went up to the stage and changed the energy of the crowd right away, I was so striken by how much of a community they could create instantly through energy. I could see how the audience remained nothing but an audience — a removed speculator — with all the other performance groups, even if the performance required audience participation. However, once the Dahn Mu Do demo team was on stage, the crowd’s energy started gathering together, and when they moved into the sample Dahn Yoga class, the audience was much more deeply engaged and became a part of the experience.

Today I learned how unnatural it has become for people to communicate beyond the surface, but I also learned the power of communicating with energy to instantly break through that barrier. And I’m very grateful that I’ve found Dahn Yoga to help me practice living deeply connected to my community.

Dahn Yoga class in San Mateo College

Energy Yoga for Body & Brain(Dahn Yoga), a one-unit P.E. class offered at the College of San Mateo is in its second session this fall after enjoying a very fun debut in the summer session offerings
As one might imagine, the atmosphere ot this type of class on a college campus creates quite a different experience from the tranquil and sweet purity of our Dahn yoga centers.   Yet, as the instructor for this class, I experience the energy of the whole scene - the cavernous gymnasium space, my voice echoing off twenty-foot high ceilings,  students coming in just out of their classes from up campus, rolling twenty-two sticky mats out onto the shiny hardwood floor -  as the very same energy that so characterizes the Dahn training that I love.  Practicing Connection. Delvering Cosmic energy.  Feeling down to my.. everything,  the crazy joy that comes from seeing another student’s face filled with self-satisfaction and an emerging sense of awareness.

The first month it was “Kay”. For two years she had suffered from Plantar fasciitis, a painful foot condition caused by the ligament that connects the heel bone to the toes. Nothing she tried ever relieved her constant discomfort.   Last week Kay said  her foot pain has completely gone away since starting the class - for the first time ever,  in two years.

Last Thursday it was “Maggie.”  She has been on hormone replacement therapy for five years and trying to wean off, but in the process, has experienced a lot of unpleasant symptoms she didn’t have before, mostly insomnia and hot flashes.  While she has used the myriad natural remedies to alleviate them, she expressed that the results, though somewhat helpful, are subtle (compared to HRT little green pill), thus, requiring a lot more patience and tolerance of the relentless symptoms.  Taking the Energy yoga has lightened up the symptoms and she’s managing a lot better.

Mmm, the whole experience is… continuously bringing about new stories.  I am constantly amazed. Constantly.

The notion of healing with energy may seem strange, even a bit taboo, to many of us in the West. As an American girl born and raised in the South, I had to overcome a deeply ingrained belief system that told me that such treatments were ineffective, maybe even harmful. Though the notion of energy healers curing my many ailments was compelling, I was unsure of where it fit within my belief system. As a Christian, I was taught to look, if anywhere, to God for healing, not to a healer to balance my chakras.

The lack of available knowledge and the stigma placed on the concept of energy healing made me hesitant. However, I was suffering. For many years I found myself fixing one part of my body, only to find another in need of attention. I had a variety of chronic health problems, ranging from acid reflux disease to chronic myofascial pain and dysfunction, with a number of things in between.
