Dahn Yoga Saved My Life

Coby

During the summer of 1992, I began to experience anxiety attacks and was unable to sleep through the night. I would wake up every few hours with my heart racing, certain that I was getting ready to have a heart attack. The anxiety could strike at any time. I could be driving home from work, on vacation, or simply having a family dinner.

Several times I was rushed to a hospital’s emergency room because of a stress reaction - but it sure seemed like I was suffering a heart attack. In the spring of 2003, after trying for years to establish an exercise and diet regimen to alleviate my condition, I resigned myself to the fact that I would need prescription medicine to combat this daily nightmare and prepared to visit my doctor.

Two weeks before my doctor’s appointment, I was in my local deli and I saw the Dahn Yoga and Healing brochure heralding the opening of a center in Bethesda, a few blocks from my office. Out of desperation, and fear of being on medication the rest of my life, I went for an energy-check up. After that session, I signed up for three months, unsure of what to expect, but hopeful. I went to class three times a week, and within a month, my anxiety attacks had disappeared. I was finally able to sleep through the night. My fears of death and of having a heart attack vanished. I was, and am still, grateful to be rid of the daily fear that would grab me without warning.

I thought things could not improve much more, but I was to be pleasantly surprised by an equally great, and unexpected, benefit derived from my yoga practice. For more than two years, I had been on the cholesterol-lowering drug, Zocor, because my cholesterol level had been as high as 280. On Zocor, my level had stabilized to a 210-200 level. After four months attending regular classes at the Bethesda Center, my cholesterol level dropped to 147! During this time, I would go class at least three times a week. And during the workday, I would drink a few cups of green tea and brown rice tea purchased from the Center. I neither added nor subtracted anything from my regular diet over this time (except for the brand of green tea). The only difference was my involvement with the Dahn Center.

Dr Ilchi Lee is founder of Dahn Yoga.

In October 2003, my doctor removed me from the prescription medicine with my promise that I would have regular check-ups. To this day, my cholesterol level is low and I am off the medication.

I attribute my wonderful results to the physical and mental exercises taught by the professionals at the Dahn Center. I am convinced that the knowledge taught here have enriched my life, focused my life, and, literally, saved my life.

Dahn yoga Campolindo High school out reach class

The fortunate students at Campolindo High School experienced Dahn Yoga and Dahnmudo during finals week during end of January 2008. Headmaster JungAe Kim brought the energy of the students down very well with a combination of TaiChi, DahmMuDo, and JungChung breathing. The students found the exercises challenging to perform but felt refreshed when finished.

The most exciting demonstration was how the mind affects the body. Almost 50 students made one of their hand s grow slightly in size through verbal command. The students measured their own hands, heel of palms to tip of fingertips. They commanded their smaller hand to grow, grow, grow, grow, grow with a sincere and focused mind. Those who truly desired and believed their hand would grow found that it did indeed happened. It was a powerful demonstration of the mind and body connection; one the students won’t forget!

Grant who graduated the Campolindo high couple of years ago,

he went with Headmaster Kim and he assisted this class.

currently, he graduated Phoenix Project and doing community service.

dahn yoga to prevent flu

Winter means flu and cold season. To protect yourself from the flu, keep your immune systems healthy. Drawing from traditional Asian health practices, Ilchi Lee, founder of Dahn Yoga, indicates that the cold and damp energy conditions in the air can enter your body and lead to the flu. Releasing this negative energy can be achieved through exercising the meridians (energy channels) and acupressure points. Lee describes five exercises, which when done daily during the flu season, can help your body sidestep or stop the flu.

play well with others

You cannot say you are using your brain well if you cannot learn to use your brain in cooperation with other brains. Fortunately this is really not so hard. Mutual brain-appreciation is the key to peace on every level. Rather than trying to control the brains around y ou, seek simply to play fairly.

Realize you are only responsible for your own brain, without trying to control other brains. Simply learn to take joy in the marvelous diversity exhibited in the human brain!

“who am i?”

this simple question of identity is the one that can ultimately lead to the state defined in Eastern thought as “enlightenment” because a person who can answer that question honestly and confidently is a happy and fulfilled individual.

laugh and walk

Sometimes the simplest exercises are the most effective to keep us healthy. I’d like to introduce you to two approaches to good health that are more effective than any others. One is laughter; the other is walking. Both can powerfully affect your brain to produce endorphins, leaving you with a sense of happiness and peace. This lecture will guide you through a simple laughter exercise and detailed steps for Jangsaeng Walking.

Choice and Being

Being is a more awakened state than having. To be is to exist in a space of pure choice and creation. It is a state of immense power. “I am happy. I am generous. I am…” These statements are declarations of self-evident truth. Once you decide to be, and to allow that beingness to permeate every cell of your body, then your brain has the potential to create every experience and manifestation related to that state of being. The state of true beingness is to succeed before finishing; the state of having is incidental. Dahn Yoga family.

My training began in the last semester in college. In short, I felt right away an increased ability to stay relaxed even under pressure. Each class I would look forward to the end result where my thoughts and worries would disappear. I soon began to realize that it was much more that. I was opening my mind to new things, to new ideas and perhaps most importantly, new people. Again this was much more than self confidence or even stress management, but instead a positive change in mind and body that would open up a great number of possibilities for me, including my passion: community. I discovered my passion during the Phoenix Project, an intensive training of awakening and action exercises that really helped me focus on what I
wanted to do and gave me tools to stay centered in my vision. The Phoenix Project was also a great way to find young members that were experiencing the same challenges and wanted to get clear answers in their lives. Thank you Dahn Yoga, my family and all the Phoenixi!
