Golf and Dahn Yoga
As I have progressed through the various workshops offered by Dahn Yoga,
I began to see a potential benefit from a different perspective than the one I am journeying on.
To bring health, happiness and peace to myself, then to others in my community. As part of the HSP Movement, I envisioned seeing the entire earth living in a totally HSP environment. That’s still my ultimate vision, but now there is also a smaller, more personal goal that has evolved. That personal goal is to make significant improvement in my golf game using the principles, methodologies, and practices of Dahn Yoga. Now, you may ask, how can this be? How can the practice of Dahn Yoga improve the game of golf? Let me respond by identifying five (5) relationships between the game of golf and Dahn Yoga that I relate to.
Relationship #1 is with Meridian exercises.
Through specific meridian exercises, I can improve the physical condition of my body such that the stress of a golf swing will not wear me down as quickly during a round of golf.
Relationship #2 is with Jung Choong breathing. In developing my dahn-jon, I will be developing my ki so it becomes stronger thus enhancing my total being. Feeling my dahn-jon during a golf swing will keep my body, my mind, and my spirit acting as one. I can become my golf swing.
Relationship #3 is with Ji gam and brain education. As an average golfer, remaining focused on my golf ball until I have completed my swing is difficult to attain for each and every swing, approximately 90 – 95 during a round. Without this proper concentration, my mind will be scattered at the time of swing execution causing less than desirable ball direction and distance. Ji gam and other power brain methodologies will help me to remain focused, for at least 30 seconds, through completion of each and every golf swing and to improve my hand – eye coordination. I will also be in the present.
Relationship #4 is with Dahn Mu Do. The objective of Dahn Mu Do is to develop power and find limitlessness in ourselves, our energy and our creativeness. The eleven (11) movements will help to strengthen my lower body so that it can attain a solid “T” structure while keeping the upper body fluid and relaxed. This is the concept of the best way to swing a golf club: a strong lower body and fluid and relaxed upper body.
Relationship #5 is with SMILE. What more can I desire than to play golf with my true self? To be who I really am, to choose to be master of my life, to choose to enjoy what has been given me by the heaven and the earth, and to live it with other earth humans, smiling each step of the way.
With the 2007 golf season upon us, I look forward to playing some golf. I plan on applying the Dahn Yoga principles, practices and methodologies to my golf game and experience what results from this wonderful personal journey. As far as I am concerned, I have created a win-win situation for me.
